July 24, 2009 -Take the ride of your life at the 2010 DFW Tour de Cure on Saturday, July 24, 2009 at the Texas Motor Speedway! Everyone is sure to enjoy this unique day of fun, fitness, friendship, and the thrill of completing a ride (and one loop around the track!) that moves us closer to finding a CURE for DIABETES!
Diabetes affects 23.6 million Americans, including 400,000 in North Texas, and is the fifth leading cause of death by disease in America. Diabetes is a chronic disease that has no cure. There are 5.7 million people that do not know they have it and 1 out of 3 children born in the year 2000 will develop diabetes at some time within their life. Diabetes complications include heart disease and stroke, kidney disease, blindness, nerve damage, and foot and leg amputations. Join us now to help fight this epidemic and find a cure for diabetes so we can reverse the trend and protect not only ourselves, but the ones we love.
Choose from five ride options - 100, 62, 32, 15 or 5 miles - depending on your level of fitness and riding skill. All riders will enjoy a safe and well-marked route, superior SAG (Support & Gear), medical support, and full-service themed rest stops with restrooms, snacks and drinks. All our volunteers are experienced and trained to assist in maintaining fun and safe conditions for riders. SAG vehicles will be on all routes ensuring your safety and will provide assistance when needed.
At the finish line, our celebration continues with a fun festival featuring entertainment by a live band(s), a delicious lunch, massages, kid activities, exhibits and more! Non-riding family members and supporters are encouraged to come enjoy the day as well.
To get in on all the fun, go to www.diabetes.org/tour and search "Dallas/Fort Worth" to sign up today! It's only $15 to register and a fundraising minimum of $150 to ride. All riders will receive incentive prizes throughout the year for their fundraising, too!
A great way to make fundraising fun, easy and exciting is to start your own or join a team! When you form a team, you make an even bigger difference! What is a team? A team consists of the team captain and 4 others - a team can be made up of your friends, family and/or coworkers. Plus, there are additional incentive prizes for team fundraising!
If you have diabetes, we want YOU to ride with us - YOU are why we ride! You will receive a FREE Red Rider jersey AND a FREE Red Rider t-shirt! What is a Red Rider? A Red Rider is someone living with diabetes (type 1 or type 2) who rides in the Tour de Cure. Why be recognized as a Red Rider? Being a Red Rider means that you are not alone. With hundreds of riders who may share a similar story, and hundreds more to support you, being a Red Rider can help with your first step or your millionth - in your fight to live a healthier life! One DFW Tour de Cure Red Rider said that, "hearing 'Go Red Rider!' was a thrill that kept my feet moving" about the 2009 ride, which is what was said by ALL the Red Riders that day!
Want to be a part of the DFW Tour de Cure in another way? We'd love to have you! Volunteers are always welcome and are an important part of Tour de Cure. If you're interested, please email Britt Wolf at bwolf@diabetes.org for more information. Find us on Facebook!
